Episode 45 : Revisiting the Reedsy Book Editor (April 2016)
It’s been a while since I had a look at the Reedsy Book Editor (in my episode on 17th February) and I’d thought I’d re-examine it and update you on the progress on the product. I did slightly rush to review it when it came out so I think it is only fair that I do a brief show every now and then to see how they are progressing with it.
What’s still missing
- Import function
- Section breaks
From what I can tell they are still missing an import function and the section break is still not implemented.
What’s been added
- The added Reedsy Logo is gone – you can now import your own publisher logo
- Extra paper book sizes
- Ability to add images.
However they have now removed the Reedsy logo and fixed the bug saying the book was published by Reedsy making the product much more usable, if you are prepared to either write the book using it or cut-and-paste your file contents from another program into it.
They also seem to have added many more book sizes, like 5×8 and 6×9 again increasing the usability of the product. You can also now include images in the document. This makes creating PDF interior files with images a lot easier.
Conclusion
I think you could now use the Reedsy Book Editor seriously now, though you are of course very limited in what you can do, but if you are willing to work within the current framework you could quite easily produce an ePub or Print PDF using this product. Unlike Scrivener it’s issue is that it is easy to use but limited in functionality. Once more functionality is added I can really see it giving Scrivener a run for its money, at least as far as formatting goes.
