How NOT to Launch A Book

How NOT to Launch A Book

How NOT to Launch A Book

Episode 43

In this episode I tell you about my recent (very soft launch) of Magpies and Magic 2 : The Great Escape.  I also mention the fact that not for the first time I’ve done so many things wrong.

Failure to Launch?

My biggest problem has been that I have been distracted.  I have not done a proper plan for the release of my book.  I’ve been distracted by this podcast, by thinking of creating training, and then not getting around to it, and to some forthcoming conferences I am going to (like the London Book Fair).   While launches aren’t as important as they used to be, especially for eBooks, they are important because:

This time around I made some effort to promote the first book in my Magpies and Magic series before the release of this book, as I discussed in a previous show, but most of my marketing efforts have so far failed.   Much of this again is not really committing to things or “joining the dots”.  I still have some things in the pipeline, but I am not sure they will make much impact on the launch period of this book.

It’s not the end of the world though

As I’ve said on previous shows it’s not the end of the world if your launch isn’t successful.   Books still sell outside those 30 days.  I believe possible to revive sales in a book that doesn’t sell (though so far I’ve proved myself wrong on this point!).    I’ll make much more of an effort to plan things for the third book in the series (or so I tell myself now…)
