Reasons to Self-Publish and Reasons Not
In this week’s episode I describe the multiple reasons to self-publish and the reasons to not.
Creating a Paperback Book via Createspace
In this episode, I discuss the process of using the Createspace service to make your paperback book available on Amazon.
The World outside Amazon
There are a huge number of E-book stores apart from Amazon. Outside the US and the UK, Amazon are not the dominant player in E-book distribution, so to limit yourself to Amazon is not a good idea from an international perspective.
In this episode I talk about two “aggregators”, Draft2Digital and Smashwords and the relative merits of each. You will learn how to self-publish your eBook on stores apart from Amazon.
How to Self-Publish an eBook
In this episode I take you through why you might want to self-publish an eBook first in most cases. I also take you through the ways you can create an eBook via using a tool like Scrivener or via Word. Scrivener is the tool I use and is a fantastic tool for planning and organising writing as well as for generating ePubs.
Self-Publishing is Easy
In this first episode I start off with the slightly provocative statement:
Self-Publishing is Easy
Of course, what many people describe as Self-Publishing is not in any way easy. Writing a book is not easy – it is a lot of work. Marketing a book is not easy. But in my mind neither of these is the essence of Self-Publishing.
This podcast will primarily be based on looking at the core activities needed to self-publish a work. We won’t be talking (at least at the beginning) about how to write a book or how to market one. Both of them need to be done however a book is published. Most major publishers know how to market a book to print book-distributors, but not to readers, so however your book is published you will still need to do marketing to readers.
